ANZCA 2017 Keynote Speaker Profile: Daya Thussu

At this year’s ANZCA conference, we are honoured to have Professor Daya Thussu join us as one of our keynote speakers.

Professor Thussu is Professor of International Communication and Co-Director of the India Media Centre, the world’s first academic centre dedicated to the study of media in India and its globalizing tendencies.

Beyond an impressive publishing history that spans communication, global media policy, public diplomacy, news and journalism, Professor Thussu’s life long research has been media and communications in developing nations. He is the founder and Managing Editor of the Sage journal Global Media and Communication and editor for the Routledge book series Internationalizing Media Studies and Advances in Internationalizing Media Studies.

As a sign of his international standing, Professor Thussu was awarded the Distinguished Scholar Award by the International Communication Section of the International Studies Association in 2014. He also served as an executive of the International Association of Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) from 2002 until 2012.

Professor Thussu’s academic expertise is grounded in extensive professional knowledge. He has over ten years’ experience in journalism, having worked at the Press Trust of India, India’s national news agency for five years, and as an Associate Editor of Gemini News Service, a London-based international news agency with a particular interest in the developing world.

At ANZCA 2017 Daya Thussu will explore how, in the dynamic, globalised internet age, the largely one-way vertical flow of media and communication products—from the West to the Rest—is giving way to multiple, horizontal flows in which the BRICS countries are playing a key role.

Finalising ANZCA 2017 abstract submission

Did you have trouble finalising your ANZCA 2017 abstract submission?

While the extended acceptance date has now passed for abstracts, we did receive a few enquiries of users experiencing difficulties while attempting to upload their contribution. We suspect it was a traffic issue, given the high level of contributions to this year’s event. But if you did experience issues, we will leave the EasyChair site open until the end of next week, Friday 24 March.

Please go to ANZCA 2017 EasyChair conference site to upload your abstract.

Hopefully this will provide enough of an opening to those authors that had last minute issues with the system to upload their abstract for this year’s conference.
